Through Her Window

Through Her Window is an ongoing commissioning and performing project which works to undo the historic silencing of women by raising women’s voices through music. Inspired by the well known quote attributed to Claudia Alta Johnson, “Art is a window to the soul,” THW brings together some of the most eloquent female-identifying musical voices of history and our own time to expand the canon, share stories, and give the world a peek into the windows of their hearts and minds.

The growing list of composers who have written for THW includes: Alexandra Gardner, Reena Esmail, Danae Venson, Alyssa Mena, and Elise Winkler.

I am deeply grateful to the Seattle Symphony, Protostar Group, and the incredible composer Valerie Coleman for their generosity and support, which has made these commissions possible.
