As a teacher, my goal is to provide my students with a solid foundation in the fundamentals of oboe playing, to help them learn to apply these tools in a musical context, and to develop a musical vocabulary that is both wide-ranging and stylistically appropriate. I also feel a responsibility to help my students cultivate a heathy approach to oboe playing, both mentally and physically, so that they all may enjoy long and happy lives in music!
It is of particular importance to me to study and perform music written by people from underrepresented groups, including women, BIPOC, and people who identify as LGBTQ+. I encourage my students to do the same.
To get a better sense of my playing and teaching style, head to my Instagram page. There you can find recordings of me playing every Barret Progressive Melody (recorded for #40DaysOfBarret in 2020) along with short reflections and/or practice tips for each etude.
After seven years I have made the decision to step down from my teaching position at the University of Washington to spend more time with my growing family. I am however still available for private lessons and masterclasses. For booking/inquiries, please contact me here.
